I bought a teenager a gift certificate for a spa service recently, and I called yesterday to book the appointment.  First of all, I was stuck in the dreaded voice-activated system for awhile, at a spa that promotes itself as offering the highest level of quality personal service.  Um, hello?  Can you say, “There’s a disconnect here?”  I was ready to disconnect! It’s an old adage that people do business with people they know – but it’s true!  By using your review reply tool and replying to all your reviews in a friendly, personal manner, you allow potential clients a chance to familiarize themselves with you and your business – so when that all important decision time comes around and a potential client calls, they are doing business with someone who is no longer a stranger. The 2009 Recovery Act: Information for Small Business

Friday, April 3, 2009

My last post covered changes from the 2008 Economic Stimulus Bill. However, as we all know, an even bigger economic recovery bill just got passed in February. But what exactly does this mean for small business? The benefits are not as clear cut as the 2008 Economic Stimulus Bill – a whopping big tax deduction – but they may be more far reaching. To help you make sense of all the information flying around in the media, I am sending you straight to the source.

The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009, as it’s officially known, can be found at http://www.recovery.gov/.  Here you can find information on the many different stimulus programs being funded across the country. Check out the Agency Progress & Resources link on the right hand side for more information.  You can also sort this information by state. More »

Tax time is upon us. In just a few short weeks, all those tax forms must be postmarked and mailed in to the IRS. I’m sure most of you have already filled out your paperwork, but some of you are sure to be like me, waiting till the last minute to face the inevitable.

This past year has seen some substantial changes to the tax code for small business. While all the recent talk has been focused on the Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 and how that will affect the economy, Congress passed some enticing incentives for small business in the 2008 Economic Stimulus Bill. (Remember that one?) Be sure to take a few minutes to review your tax returns to make sure you did not miss taking advantage of this new, large incentive for 2008 returns.

Below, I have compiled a list of links to both the IRS and the SBA websites that explain the deductions more fully. (Of course, contact your financial advisor for advice in your unique situation.) More »

So why not use the same exercise as a jumping off point to strengthen your marketing description? More »
